Operations: Philosophy

Wisconsin RCACs should incorporate a philosophy into its operations that is designed to support resident independence and choice; has a written negotiated risk agreement; has a home-like setting; and has a full range of services offered on an as-needed basis and determined through a comprehensive ongoing assessment that meets the needs of individuals.

The Assisted Living Federation of America's (ALFA) philosophy incorporates the following:

  • Offer cost-effective quality care that is personalized for individual needs.

  • Foster independence for each resident.

  • Treat each resident with dignity and respect.

  • Promote the individuality of each resident.

  • Allow each resident choice of care and lifestyle.

  • Protect each resident's right to privacy.

  • Nurture the spirit of each resident.

  • Involve family and friends, as appropriate, in care planning and implementation.

  • Provide a safe, residential environment.

  • Make the Assisted Living residence a valuable community asset.
